This is about "The Friend Zone".

500 Days of Summer (2009) - Jen
He claims to have been friend zoned, but he's actually claiming himself to be a self-entitled misogynist. This isn't to say that his experience is invalid, it's just that his perspective happens to be very problematic.

Everyone has experienced The Friend Zone at one point or another. You attempt to show someone your wish of pursuing something more. That person then reminds you of how good a friend - a brother - a sister - you are, and just like that you find yourself flailing about The Friend Zone.

The Friend Zone is real, and so are the feelings behind them. No one likes rejection, and it’s especially painful when you believe your presence would greatly benefit the significant other.

The problem with The Friend Zone is while it can be applied to all types of love regardless of sexuality or gender, it only seems to be valid when applied to heterosexual relationships in which the male is “friend-zoned” by the female.

This is the aftermath to "Enlightened Brothas".

Hey people,

So a lot of craziness has gone down since we last spoke, so I apologize for being MIA for most of the month.

I've just been too busy with school, work, and cleaning up the mess that Tumblr unleashed on my last blog post.

Yup. "Enlightened Brothas" blew up almost a week after I posted it and became the third most read blog post within 24 hours.

This is about Tinder and online dating.

It's connected to Facebook so…yeah.
Yes, I downloaded the Tinder app.

I was waist deep in burger and fries around midnight with a friend.

She told me she was 100% single.

Not only did she coin the most brilliant, accurate phrase of all time ("I'm 100% single") but she showed me an interesting article written by a black woman who downloaded Tinder.

This is what true love looks like.

yinmeetsyang
tumblr couples are the worst. *trips into feelings*
I know what true love is.

Really, I do though.

I don't know what it feels like - but I do know what it looks like.

I found out during literally a 3 minute conversation with a classmate that I ran into at the gym.

This is about responsible-college-student stupidity.

5:10pm
Right now I'm sitting in a class I'm not enrolled in.

Yes, this is the kind of crazy college recklessness I'm getting into.

This is about that black guy who loves QOTSA…and interracial dating.

black white dating, http://www.flickr.com/photos/49326187@N07/
My friends and family have teased me saying "Watch - you'll end up with a white man."

Despite knowing my anxiety-borderline-fear of dealing with all the pitfalls of interracial dating (opposition, ignorance, festishism, discrimination, just to name a few), they say this more because of my tastes.

This is about BEYONCÈ Part 2.

Yoncè, don't give me that look.
Beyoncè.

I understand that I am just another bee in the hive, but does your team not even care that I'm a full time student?

My holiday break only lasts so long. Spring break is just one week. I plan on continuing to work on campus and take classes over the summer.

This is about the abyss that is college.

Real Talk
First, I apologize for not posting a written blog post in a good minute. Y'all need to read more.
Second, I apologize if my written posts aren't as exciting as my videos, however these written words help me practice the writing skills that I will need to earn my degree and I hate editing videos because it takes too freakin long and I get sick of looking at my stupid face.

I always tell myself to put on some makeup or something but then I don't because no.

What I'd like to discuss today is a topic inspired by the many depressing conversations I've had with my fellow class of 2012 friends.

This is Ratchet Poetry Presents 1.

Inspired by the always eventful Soul Fo' Mondays at DePaul University, a group of friends and myself decided to do some poetry of our own. Sure, by professional standards we're subpar, but by all things ratchet, we are gems! After some deep thinking and staying up literally the entire night, we found the inspiration.
I proudly introduce the first installment of Ratchet Poetry Presents.

This is about that homework.

Struggling with your homework? Tired of late nights? Early mornings? Or all nighters? Almost finished with my second quarter of college, I'm here with some helpful tips on how to handle your workload like a boss, then get back to business. (Whatever your business may be).

This is about my first day of class. This is Part II.

I wouldn't call my life awkward. Not that the word doesn't fit, but I feel it's so overused.
To me, awkward is applied to the small things that have a big enough emotional effect to make me feel uncomfortable for an extended amount of time.
Like MTV's "Awkward.". I love the show, but accidentally announcing that you want to have sex with your boyfriend through the PA system isn't awkward, it's devastating.
That being clarified let me narrate my overanalyzed experience to my first ever class in the Loop, traveling solo.

This is about my first day of class. This is Part I.

It dawned on me while I was doctoring up my coffee at Starbucks at exactly 9:26am.
I was upset that the half&half was empty, but thankfully the nonfat milk hadn't run out yet. Unfortunately the kid next to me was unlucky enough to knock his drink a bit sending about 1/3 of the contents all over the counter. I was about to laugh to ease his embarrassment*, but quickly shut my mouth.
He was one of those people. You know, the super serious ones that curse life when they trip on an uneven sidewalk, make a freudian slip, or knock over their own coffee.
*Okay, maybe laughing would make you more embarrassed, but it makes me feel better. I'm not afraid to laugh at myself so I want someone else to do so too.
Napkins were seized, quickly ran over the spill, and he sharply left out the doors.
Then the thought really occurred to me how alone I was on my first day of class.

This is college.

Yeah Stitch is with me, so?!
My dorm room is all organized and now has that perfect lived-in-mess that makes it feel like home.
My roommates are cool and vary in range on the party scale so we balance each other out.
There's at least one party going on somewhere on campus.
And my last paycheck will be mailed in signaling my soon-to-be-brokeness.
I'm a college student.
So, how is the Nebraska native faring in the streets of Chicago?

This makes it legit.

The most decent ID picture I've taken in years.
Name: Olivia Cunningham
Class of: 2016
College of: Communication
Major: Journalism
Address: 1237 West Fullerton Chicago, IL

DePaul orientation (Premiere DePaul) was July 30-31 for me and while the experience was incredible, I couldn't help but notice that everything was being set in stone around me. My ID picture was taken, I registered for classes, turned in my new housing contract and toured the building (yes I have housing and I promise details will come later). Then that night walking back to the dorms where we stayed the night in (Munroe Hall) it dawned on me:
This makes it legit.
Before I know it I'll be walking around campus by myself, not with a large group of clueless incoming freshman, I'll have to find my way around on the L Train, not with a student leader pointing out the right destinations, and all my days will repeat and not end with my dad picking me up asking about my day.
AND I'M SOOOOO READY!
Am I nervous and all that stuff, of course, but this has been my goal since forever!
I need to make my own path as soon as possible. After all, my major is journalism which means I'll be documenting stories and how can I appreciate others' if I don't create my own?
This is,
MAB

This DePaul dame is dormless.

That's right.
This average braud is enrolled as an incoming freshman to DePaul University.
As excited as I am about campus life, internships, downtown Chicago, and being close to my extended family, my enthusiasm is becoming overshadowed by my fear of being dormless.
I got this cute little postcard giving me a 'Friendly Reminder' of my current situation.
"Dear Olivia, In case you were enjoying your young life worry free, we would like to remind you that so far you will be starting your freshman year dormless. Enjoy your summer!"
My last weeks of summer are quickly dissipating and I can't help but fear that I'll start off the school year in some shady building just off campus...
